LIPIX is built
on a flexible and powerful integration infrastructure from
Intersystems, Inc. This infrastructure enables LIPIX to provide
participating organizations with the ability to efficiently
distribute clinical information to designated physician providers.
Typically, organizations choose to distribute laboratory results,
radiology reports, or discharge summaries to the primary care or
relevant caregivers of patients seen at their facilities. A
discharge event from an acute care environment will trigger an
automatic distribution of this info to the relevant providers
identified during the acute hospitalization or to a provided
identified via self-assignment. Information is transmitted via one
of the following three pre-selected options:
-
Direct HL7
feeds into a practice's ambulatory electronic medical record
system
-
Email
notification with secure access to the LIPIX system
-
Automated
fax
Besides
helping to improve the care of their patients, organizations also
realize the following key benefits:
-
Decrease
in the total cost of distributing data to outpatient providers
-
Improvement in the hospital-practitioner allegiance or "bonding"
by improving the services provided to private physician
practices and groups. This occurs due to the following:
-
reduction in the time it takes for the transmission of data
to outpatient physicians
-
improvement in the accuracy of data transmitted to
outpatient physicians
-
decrease in the variability of the transmission process
In addition to
provider and patient benefits, the healthcare system as a whole will
benefit from the efficiencies by the more effective distribution of
and access to important clinical data. Cost savings will accrue
secondary to the following:
-
Decrease
in costs associated with overuse of healthcare services, such as
redundant diagnostic procedures
-
Decrease
in unnecessary follow-up visits
-
Decrease
in costly medical errors and adverse events
