LIPIX Project Phases
Phase 1:
LIPIX (the Long Island Patient Information eXchange) is making excellent progress on its plan to create a successful and sustainable Regional Health Information
Organization (RHIO) or Health Information Exchange (HIE) on Long Island.
- The HEAL NY Phase 1 proof of concept project to integrate clinical information between NSLIJ, NUMC, and SNCH, as well as other smaller organizations, is on schedule to Go-Live by the end of the 2009 year.
- The current participation in the federal “NHIN2”(Nationwide Health Information Network, Phase 2) trial implementation project enabled data exchange with NYCLIX (the NYC RHIO) and has provided LIPIX and NSLIJ exposure on a state and national level as a leader in the burgeoning HIE movement.
- These two projects established the governance structure, technical architecture, and policy framework that will serve as the building blocks for LIPIX to grow and realize its goals of
- Improving access to patient data at the point of care;
- Improving healthcare quality; and
- Reducing inappropriate utilization and cost.
Phase 5:
Growth plans were dramatically boosted on March 28th when Governor Patterson announced the awarding of $105 million in grants to 19 leading community-based health information technology (IT) projects. LIPIX is pleased to have received an award for $9.2 million; and to be a significant part of a second award to Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation for $3.9 million.
- These awards will facilitate the expansion of LIPIX functionality to 19 of 24 hospitals on Long Island and 3 in Queens and to several extended care and outpatient organizations.
- As well, LIPIX will be expanding its functionality to address medication management, public health, and consumer (patient) empowerment capabilities.
- The governance of LIPIX is being significantly amended to reflect the transparency and inclusivity of the LIPIX organization. The LIPIX by-laws will call for ALL participating acute care facilities to have representation on the board and for extended care facilities and physician members to also be represented.
Phase ?:
LIPIX is beginning to help build the infrastructure to support interconnectivity across the state.
